StoryBombs - I Come From

What makes you who you are? What shapes your character and defines your individuality?

Created by the Young Folk of Heeley from the Know Your Place Youth Club as part of the StoryBombs Story Songs Project. Made possible with funding from Youth Music.

These are questions we set out to explore in this Story Bomb. Inspired by Dean Atta’s poignant spoken word piece ‘I Come From’, we created our own hip hop poetry set to a backdrop of sounds and music.

Over a series of five workshops, our young people masterfully constructed their lyrics to reflect who they are – their hobbies, families and identities, their passions and things they love…and also those they hate.

They then set about complementing their words with sounds – piano, drums, beatboxing and even ripped paper to name a few. Have a listen, and perhaps even have a go at creating a poem of your own?
