Meet our artist of the month - Peregrin!

Peregrin! is an emerging indie-prog pop-rock band from Sheffield. A five-piece band turning heads in the Sheffield music scene with a sound that is entirely their own. The band blends an incredibly eclectic mix of various genres, drawing distinct influences from Brazilian popular music, British folk, traditional jazz, and raw punk rock.
Ahead of their highly anticipated live EP release this summer, we had the pleasure to sit down with guitarist and songwriter, Iuri, to discuss the band’s global roots, their creative flow, and why a certain local studio *wink wink* feels just like home.
Humble beginnings and unique global roots
Every band has a starting line, but only a few are as geographically diverse as Peregrin!. The band formed when four university friends, from different corners of the world- Brazil, France, Slovakia, and Hong Kong, met and started experimenting with different sounds.
"Those days were really special," Iuri reminisces. "It was so exciting to experiment and discover how all those different influences blended together."
Though the pandemic forced some early members to move away, the core trio was soon reinforced by close friends Johnny and Josh. This new lineup naturally steered the band toward a heavier, rock-oriented sound. However, their original DNA remains intact. Listen closely, and you will still catch the distinct weave of traditional British folk and vibrant Brazilian rhythms cutting through the rock edge.
"This may sound a bit chaotic," Iuri admits, "but acts like Vulfpeck or RAYE have been breaking the rules by successfully merging traditional musicianship with modern genres. Our aim is to do something similar within an indie rock landscape."

A Balancing act: OG sounds with Modern Rawness
When Iuri first arrived in Sheffield, he pitched the band's sound as a mix of Supertramp and early Coldplay, a description that was met with a lack of enthusiasm by the locals.
Today, their inspiration is a rich tapestry of eras and styles. They pull from past titans like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Fleetwood Mac, alongside the gritty late-90s British indie rock of The Verve.
The "Thoughtless" Songwriting State
How does a track travel from an initial spark to a finished anthem? For Peregrin!, it is an exercise in letting go. While Iuri or James often bring structured ideas to the rehearsal room, the magic happens when the collective starts to jam.
"To me, the best songwriting happens when you get in touch with this subconscious, 'thoughtless' state where creativity seems to reach you from somewhere else beyond you, beyond reasoning. In that initial stage, you must let ideas flow choicelessly, almost carelessly."
The hard work, however, follows immediately after. For their upcoming EP, the band took a hyper-improvisational approach. To mature their sound for their next project, they have added a new step to their workflow: listening back to their own rehearsal tapes to put themselves directly into the shoes of the audience.
The Hybrid 3 Community & The Secret Passageway
When it came time to work on their live EP, there was only one choice: Hybrid 3 Studios. For Peregrin!, the space represents far more than just high-end gear and soundproofing. The studio has opened doors for industry advice and exciting local collaborations.
"More than just a studio, it really feels like a space made by, and for, the music community."
The physical space itself caters perfectly to their performance style. Thanks to a recent expansion, the band can link Studios 2 and 3 together. This allows them to capture the raw energy of playing live in a room together, while maintaining the audio separation needed for a pristine final mix.
And the ultimate studio perk? "We can’t forget to mention the Sheaf! What other studio in town has a secret passageway to a pub’s beer garden?!"
When asked about their standout memory in the studio so far, Iuri points directly to that weekend recording their debut EP. The band invited past collaborators and lifelong friends to join the session, including founding member Filip Badiar and Iuri's close friend Rafael Gonzaga, who traveled all the way from Brazil.
The peak emotional moment of the session happened during the outro of their song, "Thoughtless Feeling."
"I suddenly realised that all these people who are so special to me were all there playing together, so in harmony with each other. It’s hard to put into words, but it must have been one of the happiest moments in my life. That’s why we do this."
